WHAT THE CML KIT IS

Not a mandatory data collection tool, but a compass that sets direction with data.

The first condition of managing an invisible load is making it visible. The CML Kit (Care & Mental Load Analysis Tool) makes the invisible care work and mental load within the household measurable. It allows you to learn about the caregiving profile, priorities and needs of the employees in your organisation and the points where they struggle, giving you insight into care and the mental load.

The CML Kit is not a mandatory data collection tool; it is a compass that guides your human resources capacity and your policies with data. It was developed within the Care Equality Corporate Network, under the academic leadership of Özyeğin University. Built on the methodology of a national-scale study, it is carried out under the leadership of Özyeğin University academics.

THE STARTING POINT

Why should we start by measuring?

The fact that care work performed at home also carries over into working life often goes unseen and unspoken. Especially when it is not shared fairly, the physical fatigue of care work and the mental load of constant planning and remembering are carried into the office every day; they affect employees' performance, promotion decisions and how long they stay with the company.

Traditional human resources metrics — performance, absenteeism, turnover — can measure only the visible part of this load. The root of the problem remains unmeasured. The CML Kit was created to make that root visible, and therefore manageable, with the approach that “what is invisible cannot be managed”.

%85

In national research conducted by Özyeğin University, the finding that care-focused policies positively influence the employer choice of 85% of employees demonstrates how important measuring and managing care is for companies.*

FOUR CORE FUNCTIONS

Why the CML Kit?

The CML Kit brings four core functions together:

Assessment by measuring the unmeasured
The invisible care work and mental load employees carry are assessed through anonymous online surveys, on a voluntary basis.
Risk and potential management
By identifying areas of risk within the organisation, human resources capacity is managed more efficiently, inclusively and equitably. Company-specific policies are created.
Comparative analysis
In-house data is compared with the national data set for Türkiye.
Evidence-based policy
The ground is prepared for developing company-specific support mechanisms and inclusive policies in line with concrete data.
OUTPUTS

What strategic insights will you gain?

At the end of the process you obtain data that enables you to make decisions and develop policy on four critical dimensions of employee experience:

01
Measurement of care work and mental load
A breakdown of your employees' care load within the household.
02
Career goals and equality of opportunity
The effect of external factors such as care work on decisions about new projects, responsibilities and promotions; and the breaking points where “talent leakage” occurs, if any.
03
Corporate culture and the perception of flexibility
How the flexible working models and leave processes you offer are internalised; and the level of concern that using these rights will create a negative impression.
04
Communication and the influence of managers
Who employees are able to talk to within the organisation about care-related difficulties, where they feel the need to hide or disguise them, and the role of managers' attitudes in the culture of sharing.
FROM DATA TO STRATEGY

How does the process work?

The CML Kit consists of five core steps leading from data to strategy:

01
Voluntary online data collection
Employees are offered an online measurement tool based entirely on voluntary participation.
02
Multi-layered analysis
Data is cross-analysed by breakdowns such as gender, age, the group cared for and seniority.
03
National comparison
In-house findings are compared with the national data set for Türkiye; strengths and areas for development are identified.
04
Strategy workshop
Findings are shared with the relevant teams; the solution steps best suited to the organisation are designed together with stakeholders.
05
Reporting and advisory support
The data and workshop findings become a comprehensive report; advisory support is provided for the steps to be taken.
APPROXIMATELY 26 WEEKS

How is it implemented?

Implementing the CML Kit is a four-stage process of approximately 26 weeks, from the kick-off meeting to the delivery of the company-specific report. The CML Kit team accompanies the company at every stage:

WEEKS 1–7
Set-up & Preparation
Needs analysis, road map and preparation of the company-specific question set.
WEEKS 8–14
Data Collection
Rolling the surveys out within the company and technical support.
WEEKS 15–20
Analysis & Workshop
Preparing the data for analysis and a workshop for the relevant teams.
WEEKS 21–26
Reporting & Delivery
Presentation of preliminary findings and writing of the company-specific comprehensive report.
The timeline is an estimate; the stages and duration may vary according to the organisation's needs and pace of participation.
